| Attic Furnace Fire Hazard Bulletin |
On September 27, 2000, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a warning about defective furnaces in the State of California that present a substantial risk of fire. The gas-fired horizontal forced-air furnaces manufactures by Consolidated Industries (formerly Premier Furnace Company) have been associated with 30 reported fires in California. Typically, these furnaces are mounted in the attic, and could be part of a split heating/cooling system in the home. The warning targets furnaces manufactured by Consolidated Industries from 1983 through 1994 under many different brand names.
