Heritage Committee

The City of Mission Viejo Heritage Committee was formed in the fall of 1992. It is composed of local residents who have volunteered to assist the Mission Viejo Community Services Commission in the following functions:
  • Research and preserve the history and heritage of Mission Viejo.
  • Research historical sites and make recommendations for monuments and/or markers.
  • Plan programs and activities to relate historical information to the public.
  • Manage the historical research room at the Mission Viejo Library.
  • Serve as docents for tours of the Heritage House exhibits.

The Heritage Committee meets the first Wednesday of each month at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center (24932 Veterans Way) at 6:00 p.m. Meeting agendas and minutes can be viewed by clicking here.

Heritage House

The City of Mission Viejo Heritage Committee invites you to view the Heritage House exhibit “From Prehistoric to Present” through August 26, 2007. The Heritage House is open the second and fourth Saturday of the month from noon to 4:00 p.m. and located at Melinda Park (28951 Melinda Road) on the corner of Melinda Road and Santa Margarita Parkway. Bring students, scouts, and youth groups for a special history presentation by one of the Heritage Committee docents. For more information or to schedule a private tour, call (949) 470-3061.
Heritage Research Room Researching for information on the first housing development in Mission Viejo, photos of the inaugural 4th of July Street Faire or for previous entrants in the St. Patrick's Parade? Come visit the Heritage Committee's Research Room at the Mission Viejo Library. The Heritage Docents are available every Saturday from 12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m. to assist you in locating historical information. Mission Viejo History Book and Video

The Mission Viejo Heritage Committee is proud to announce the publication of Mission Viejo: The Ageless Land and the video, The History of Mission Viejo. Individuals may purchase a history book and video at Mission Viejo City Hall, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Recreation and Community Services Department and in the Local History Section of the Library on Saturday’s from 12 Noon to 4:00 p.m. The history book and video are also available for purchase at the Heritage House in Melinda Park, 28651 Melinda road, on the 2nd and 4th Saturday from Noon to 4:00 p.m. History book and video order forms are available on the City’s website.
