Council to consider Vision Plan for Mission Viejo’s Core Area March 28

city seal

The City Council on Tuesday, March 28 will consider approving the Core Area Vision Plan that may ultimately shape the future of the heart of Mission Viejo.

The Core Area Vision Plan is a visioning effort initiated by the City Council that included extensive public input and market analysis to enhance the City’s Core Area.  This area includes the properties around the intersection of La Paz Road and Marguerite Parkway, and along Marguerite Parkway to the south, including the intersection of Marguerite and Oso Parkways.

The visioning process began last year with a series of community workshops and events where residents had the opportunity to “envision the heart of Mission Viejo.”  The effort garnered extensive public input regarding opportunities for the Core Area including desired activities and experiences, physical form and character, types of land uses, scale of development and circulation (pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular). To understand the expected market demand and feasibility of Vision Plan concepts, the City also commissioned a market study.

On March 28, Council Members will consider three Vision Plan concepts dubbed – Rediscovering the Creek; Main Street; and Next Gen Village, which range from the smallest-scale concept to the largest, respectively.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center. For more information, contact the Community Development Department at 949-470-3053, cd@cityofmissionviejo.org.

I have lived in Mission Viejo since 1979. I have heard a "rumor" that high density apartments nine stories high are being planned near La Paz and Marguerite Parkway. This is beyond disturbing. Who decided this? It is a HORRIBLE idea. It will increase traffic, congestion, in addition to ruining the asthetic look of that area. Overbuilding is ruining the town I moved to in 1979. I would like to obtain a copy of the building proposal for this area. I would also like to know who to contact to voice my concerns.. I am extremely upset to think that the city I love is about to be ruined with high density buildings. I appreciate your time. Leslie Hitzfield. 26987 Moro Azul Mission Viejo, CA. 92691
