Learn about John C. Fremont and California history this Sunday

John Fremont

John C. Fremont was not only instrumental in establishing California statehood, he was also appointed by President Lincoln to command the Department of the West during the Civil War. California became a state 11 years before the Civil War broke out. Yet many of us don’t know what was happening in our state during that time period.

Historian Glenna Matthews will host a free California History Lecture on Sunday, January 29 at 3 p.m. in the Mission Viejo Council Chamber where you can learn more about John C. Fremont and Civil War history. Call 949-830-7100 ext. 5105 to reserve your spot.
