Mission Viejo Nadadores building great athletes and adults

While the finish line draws near for the Marguerite Aquatics Complex renovation, momentum continues to build for the grand re-opening of this 45-year-old facility.

The April 7 re-opening will mark the return of the Nadadores swimming and diving club, which has called Mission Viejo home since 1968.

The elite Nadadores club has produced Olympic champions, including Greg Louganis and Brian Goodell, and hosted world-class meets, putting Mission Viejo on the map. The club’s success was inspirational for other sports and help turned Orange County into a hotbed for Olympians. The club sent 24 divers and 45 swimmers to the Olympics.

But the Nadadores club does much more than build great athletes. It builds better adults. In fact, “grit” is a buzz word among Nadadores who learn early on the importance of being their best in and out of the pool. Students are schooled on delayed gratification, firmness of character, indomitable spirit, resolution, fortitude and courage. The club’s history has shown this philosophy works, with Nadadores swimmers and divers being accepted into the country’s top colleges and universities like Stanford, Princeton, Oxford, Yale, Berkeley, Indiana, Cornell, Brown and UCLA.

This winning tradition will continue to make a splash with the re-opening of the Marguerite Aquatics Complex. Opening ceremonies are from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with a host of activities taking place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 27474 Casta Del Sol. Stay tuned for more information leading up to the April 7 celebration.
