Potocki Center for the Arts Grand Opening Celebration on tap Jan. 20

Mark your calendar for January 20 when art and life entwine at the Grand Opening of the newly renovated Potocki Center for the Arts – catering to this community’s ever-growing thirst for the arts.

This community celebration is from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 27301 La Paz Road and will feature creative activities for families; make-and-take projects; and interactive fun with instructors who teach ceramics, painting, drawing, guitar and recycled art. Dance artist and Saddleback College educator Deidre Cavazzi will lead the “Melt” gallery exhibit and lecture series, and the event will boast entertainment by Boomer Blues Mission Harmonica Circle with Noe Gold as well as offer food and wine for purchase.

MELT Art Exhibit & Lecture Series
This photography exhibit highlights the fragile beauty of the far north and series of related mini-lectures from local educators.  After her summer residency in the Arctic Circle, Saddleback College Professor Deidre Cavazzi convened a panel of local experts to elucidate the subjects inspiring the exhibit including geology, climate science and sustainability. Photographers Ryan Even and Jim Langford are also exhibiting their impressive work.

Schedule of Activities
2 p.m. to 4 p.m. — Interactive Art for All Ages
MELT lecture series presenters:
4-4:30 pm:  The Geography of Frozen:  Irene Naesse, Professor of Geology at Orange Coast College
4:30-5 pm:  Flora, Fauna and Climate Change:  Dan Walsh, Professor of Geography at Saddleback College
5-5:30 pm:  Sustainability in Design:  Blake Stephens, Professor of Architecture at Saddleback College
5:30-6 pm:  Climate Change and Glacial Geology:  James Repka, Professor of Geology at Saddleback College
6-6:30 pm:  Art in the Arctic--Summer Solstice Expedition in Svalbard:  Deidre Cavazzi, Professor of Dance at Saddleback College
6:30-8:30 pm — Entertainment by Boomer Blues Mission Harmonica Circle
