The success of Mission Viejo' signature event, the "WALK Against Drugs", can only be attributed to the solidarity of partnerships between all facets of the community. The City, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, both the Capistrano Unified School District and Saddleback Valley Unified School District, businesses, service groups, students and families continue in great partnership. Together we are sending the message that we care about each other and share n the common goal of saying no to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.
Continuing with tradition, the day will begin with an 8:00a.m. rally at Mission Viejo High School (25025 Chrisanta Dr).
Participants are encouraged to arrive to the rally by 7:30a.m. to grab their Free T-shirts and a seat. This year's theme: "Win the fight with a DRUG FREE life!" Ultimate Fighting Championship Contender Mark Munoz will be the keynote speaker at the 23rd Annual Walk Against Drugs and Community Fair on Saturday, October 22nd.
Munoz will join thousands in the event that unites the City, Sheriff’s Department, schools, businesses and local groups with students and families to embrace a healthy lifestyle and say "no" to drugs, alcohol, and tobacco use. While his accomplishments include an impressive 11-2 (wins-losses) record, Munoz’ commitment to working with youth to reach their goals is most impressive. His five "Drug Free D’s" to Success: Desire, Direction, Diligence, Discipline and Dedication complement the event's "Win the fight with a drug-free life" theme and is bound to inspire many. Munoz, who lives in Mission Viejo with his wife and four kids, owns the REIGN Training Center for Mixed Martial Arts in Lake Forest.
After the rally, the crowd of more than 3,000 sporting red T-shirts will form a red ribbon as they walk down La Paz Road, through the Oso Creek Trail. The two-mile trek will be immediately followed by a community fair on the Village Green at Oso Viejo Park, 24932 Veterans Way.
