Tickets are now available for Haunt of Halloween, a spooky experience at the Kaleidoscope every Thursday through Sunday beginning September 30.
The event will feature a haunted maze, interactive scare zone, face-your-fears attraction, up-close horror pop-up, thriller workshop, and makeovers by Hollywood special-effects makeup artists from Cinema Makeup School. You will also enjoy a souvenir photo opportunity, sideshows and acts, live interactive reptile exhibit, meet and greets, pumpkin patch, kid-friendly trick-or-treating, Halloween-themed food and more. The event runs through October 31.

From theater to Storybook Stage Play: Superheroes
All the world is a stage in this storybook theater class for ages 3-6! Children will be inspired by adopting creative drama skills, engaging in exciting theater games, and recreating famous storybook characters. This unique class cultivates creativity, imagination, public speaking skills, and confidence. Participants enjoy a performance on the last day of class. A $5 material fee is payable to the instructor (Take The Stage Productions). Cost is $100.

Hollywood Film Acting: Sitcoms
This class is designed for students ages 7-11 wanting to learn the acting techniques of their favorite film and TV stars. The course includes on-camera acting techniques, vocabulary, character development, and expression. Practical exercises in both scripted and improvisational work will be stressed, and this session will focus on acting for sitcoms. Students will perform on the last day of class. Halloween Sewing Shindig
Fun, food and sewing for ages 8-18. Led by instructor Linda Rush, you will design and sew your own haunted Halloween accessory. It will be sure to please even the most frightful ghouls.... Don't be afraid. A $15 material fee is payable to the instructor. Cost is $55.

Our Adult Beginner, Intermediate, and Live Ball clinics resume at the tennis centers beginning in October. Space is limited to eight students per class, so don’t delay in securing your spot today. If your desired class is full, please waitlist so we can gauge program demand.
Cost for 60-minute classes is $18 for members; $20 non-members. Cost for 90-minute classes is $25 for members; $30 non-members. Classes are billed monthly. There is no drop-in option, but credits are issued for City cancelations due to weather and for instructor absences.

Head to the Montanoso Recreation and Fitness Center for amazing amenities, lap swim, tennis, indoor gym use, basketball, fitness classes and the splash pad. The hours are Monday through Friday from 6 am to 8 pm and weekends from 7 am to 2 pm.
Our indoor gym is open at 100 percent capacity on a drop-in basis. You can also cool off in the family-friendly splash pad available daily on a drop-in basis after 10:30 am. Enjoy family recreational swimming Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 2-5 pm and Saturdays from 11 am to 2 pm. Swim tests are required for all kids under age 12. Don’t forget to inquire about our group fitness classes, too.
Over at the Sierra Recreation and Fitness Center, you can enjoy drop-in Aqua Aerobics Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9 am and 10 am (There is no lap swim available during class times). Family recreational swimming is open Saturday and Sunday mornings from 11 am to 2 pm. Swim tests are required for all kids under 12. The center is open Monday through Friday from 6 am to 6 pm and on weekends from 7 am to 2 pm.
If you’re heading to the Marguerite Tennis Pavilion, you can savor singles and doubles tennis; private and semi-private lessons; youth and adult clinics; ball machine rentals; and leagues. The facility is open Monday through Friday from 7 am to 1 pm and from 3 to 9 pm. On Saturday, it’s open from 7 am to 7 pm and on Sunday from 7 am to 2 pm.
At the Felipe Tennis and Recreation Center, you will enjoy tennis and pickleball; singles and doubles play courts; semi-private and private lessons; group clinics; ball machine rentals; leagues; youth and adult programs; volleyball court reservations and rentals; and private patio reservations for parties and special events. The center is open Monday through Friday from 7 am to 2 pm and 3 to 9 pm. On weekends, it’s open from 7 am to 2 pm.
The City of Mission Viejo will host a Drive-Through Flu Shot Clinic in the parking lot of the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center on Friday, October 29.
While supplies last, the vaccine from the Orange County Health Care Agency will be available to folks 18 and older from 9 am to 1 pm. The vaccine will be the standard flu vaccine and not the senior dose. People who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 must wear a face mask. The flu shots are free, but donations are welcome to benefit the City’s senior services. Mission Hospital, Optum Healthcare and MemorialCare will have booths at the event and are sponsoring the clinic.

On November 15 from 9 am to 2 pm, the Council on Aging HICAP program (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program) will provide one-on-one counseling appointments. Trained volunteers assist seniors in unbiased information and assist them in selecting their health plan for the 2022 Medicare open enrollment. Mission Viejo residents are encouraged to decorate their homes with spooky Halloween décor or create pumpkin and fall harvest designs for the inaugural Mission Viejo Halloween and Fall Home Decorating Contest.
Embrace the spirit of the season and compete for forever bragging rights. First-place winners will receive cool prizes and a “Winner Sign” for their front yard. Homes must be decorated, and entries received by 5 pm on Friday, October 8. Preliminary judging takes place October 10-11, with final review on October 15.
