Dog Walker Volunteer Description and Duties
Program Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to work a three hour shift weekly, and provide a one year commitment.
- A valid tetanus vaccine record is required within 30 days.
- Must be physically able to walk an untrained (pulling on the leash) 80 pound dog. The shelter has a few small dogs and the majority of the dogs have not had any training.
- Must be physically be able to squat multiple times throughout the shift.
- Ability to interact with animals safely.
- Ability to recognize abnormalities in animal behavior and health.
Process:
- Must attend a interview, volunteer orientation and training session (training provided)

Purpose:
- To exercise and socialize the dogs at the center
- Assist in educating the public about responsible pet ownership, and help potential pet owners in the selection and adoption of a new pet.
Duties:
- Walk and socialize dogs in exercise areas
- Show and assist the public with questions regarding dogs
- Notify kennel attendants of any health or behavior issues noticed
