FREE Compost Giveaway

In celebration of Earth Day, the City's trash hauler, Waste Management of Orange County, and green waste processor, Tierra Verde Industries, are dropping off FREE compost at the Mission Viejo Animal Shelter (28095 Hillcrest) on Saturday, April 24th. Mission Viejo residents are welcome to bring their own shovel plus a bag or container and fill it up with fresh, healthy compost for their garden. Residents may stop by any time after 11:00 a.m., but please note quantities are limited, so each person will be allotted up to 36 gallons of compost while supplies last. We also ask that during this event you please follow proper social distancing guidelines and wear a face mask.
Composting is the recycling of organic materials back into a useful soil product that can be used in gardens or on potted plants. It can save you money and time and can reduce your garden's watering and weeding needs. It also benefits the environment by recycling valuable organic resources and extending the life of our landfills. This compost is a rich, organic soil amendment that consists of composted, recycled green waste collected as part of the City's residential recycling program.
