Council Member Brian Goodell

Brian Goodell moved to Mission Viejo in 1968 with his parents and sister from northern California. He is a graduate of Mission Viejo High School and UCLA. Brian served as a Commissioner on the City of Mission Viejo Community Services Commission from 2015-2016.

Brian was one of the original members of the Mission Viejo Nadadores and he was the first Olympic gold medalist from the team when he won both the 1500-meter and 400-meter freestyle swimming events, both in world record time, at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal.

During his swimming career Brian set 15 World and American records and won 19 US National and NCAA titles. He was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame, the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame, The Orange County Sports Hall of Fame and the Saddleback Valley Unified Scholl District Hall of Fame; and he was awarded the nation’s highest civilian honor, the United States Congressional Gold Medal by President Carter as a member of the 1980 US Olympic Team that boycotted the Moscow Olympics in response to the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan.

Brian learned to apply the championship traits he developed in sport to his successful real estate development and sales career, including developing the community of Rancho Santa Margarita and several million square feet of industrial distribution centers, hotels, privately funded prisons, and assisting home buyers and sellers as a Realtor® for over 30 years. Brian also assists developers of new housing and commercial projects to manage their projects.

Brian and his wife, Vicki, have been married for 34 years and they raised three sons who all graduated from Mission Viejo High School as well as local universities, and are all married and living nearby. They had their first grandchild in 2017.

Bikeway Survey

The City of Mission Viejo is developing a Bikeway Master Plan to improve the cycling experience in our community and encourage more people to enjoy riding their bicycles. We are currently in the process of gathering information to understand current cycling trends and preferences in the City.

As part of this effort, beginning on November 8th and running through December 7th, we are seeking resident feedback via a short, online survey. The survey will be available on our website, in our newsletter, and via our social media sites.

The online survey is available at https://tinyurl.com/missionviejobike, and those who participate will qualify for a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card.
