Learn how to preserve your family memories this Saturday
Do you have photographs stuffed in a shoebox and the images are fading as the years pass? Perhaps you have an old diary or book from a great-grandparent that's falling apart. If so, this program is perfect for you. On Saturday, December 10, you will learn tips for effectively keeping these treasures safe along with information about digitizing them into computer files for electronic preservation.
The hour-long program starts at 11 a.m. in the Mission Viejo City Council Chamber and will focus on the following:
- Proper care and handling of original materials.
- Archival materials used and storage techniques to preserve materials.
- How to convert materials into digital formats.
- Examples of hardware and software used to digitize materials.
This program is part of a grant project funded by the California State Library. Future efforts will include scanning days where we'll ask community members to provide interesting photographs that we can digitize and make available on the Internet. These events will greatly help to expand our local history collection by adding more unique and personal images.
