Adoption fees waived for rabbits this month
In honor of February’s designation of Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month, the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center and Dedicated Animal Welfare Group are sponsoring adoption fees for all rabbits.
Did you know rabbits make wonderful pets? Just like birds and other small animals, rabbits are often overlooked when folks think of adopting a new pet. However, anyone who’s adopted a rabbit will tell you they are a joy to have, just as lovable as other pets and make a great addition to the family. There are currently 50 breeds recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association that come in all sizes and colors.
So, what makes rabbits adoptable? For some people who still want the social qualities of a dog but don’t have time for a daily walk, rabbits are the perfect pal. Even better, they can be litter-trained like cats. Folks with allergies to cats or dogs can still adopt a bunny, since rabbit allergies are rarer than allergies to cats or dogs. Rabbits are most active at dawn and dusk, ideal times to bond before and after work. It’s best to keep rabbits indoors and is easy to rabbit proof a home, so rabbits will happily stay in their cages or pens while waiting for their owners to come home. Rabbits can also be taught tricks. With the proper care and attention, rabbits can live 10-12 years.
