Showcasing local talent through impressive exhibits
The City of Mission Viejo proudly promotes the talents of local artists through exhibits at community facilities.
The next time you visit the Potocki Center for the Arts, Mission Viejo Library and Norman P. Murray Center, check out the following impressive exhibits.
Potocki Center for the Arts
The second annual “Art of Well-being” exhibit is currently on display in advance of Mental Health Month, which is celebrated in May. This exhibit explores the vital connections between art and mental health through the work of four local artists - Lyndsey Cronk, De DCourage, Vivian Frerichs, and Laura Green.
The display features paintings, photography, and mixed-media pieces that encourage viewers to engage in dialogue about the importance of mental health and prioritize their own sense of well-being during Mental Health Awareness Month.
This exhibit runs through May 31.
The Mission Viejo Library offers visitors multiple opportunities to take in different forms of art.
The Saddleback Art League Juried Art Show includes more than 70 works of art created by Art League members. Works include oil, acrylic, watercolor, and other media, which are based on landscape, still life, and portraits.
This exhibit runs through June 1.
Textile art by knitting instructor Tamara Griffin and her students is on display in the library’s first two display cases. This exhibit features vibrant knitting and crochet pieces such as shawls, hats, and sweaters. A seasoned knitter with more than 20 years of experience, Griffin currently teaches knitting at the Potocki Center for the Arts.
This display runs through May 31.
Miniature gaming figures painted by Allen Kesinger are also on display in a library display case. Painting the details of these tiny works of art requires immense patience and skill, and Kesinger shares his artistic process and showcases his work in this display through May 31.
Another library display case features the ceramic sculptures of Saddleback College art student Gia Wahle. Her work ranges from dazzling florals to intricate replicas of designer shoes and is not to be missed. Her display runs through June 13.
Norman P. Murray Center
Don’t miss work by local art instructor Marillyn Brame and her students on display through April 27. Paintings, drawings, and mixed-media pieces by students of all ages are sure to inspire viewers to take up their own creative pursuits. This exhibit also includes a collection of 20th century sketches by Brame’s father, who frequently traveled for work.
In May, an exhibit of artwork by local senior citizens will be on display, curated in partnership with the Orange County Council on Aging.
