Summer art exhibits at City facilities

Michelle Parrish

If you are craving artistic enrichment this summer, head to the Norman P. Murray Community Center to see a colorful exhibit featuring oil paintings and photographs by Michelle Parrish. The display is a vibrant recollection of the artist’s visit to Giverny, the famed home of impressionist painter Claude Monet.

Born and raised in Southern California and a resident of Mission Viejo, Michelle comes from a long line of artists and craftsmen including renowned 20th century artist Maxfield Parrish. Michelle finds her biggest joy in conveying her thoughts and ideas on a canvas and is excited to continue the lifelong journey of learning and understanding the nuances that go into creating a piece of artwork.

This exhibit runs through August 31. The Norman P. Murray Community Center is located at 24932 Veterans Way.

In addition, be sure to swing by the Potocki Center for the Arts to view woodcuts by the late Ilee Ann Kaplan.

Ilee Ann Kaplan was a prolific artist and leader in the Southern California museum community. Before her passing in 2018, she was instrumental in developing the museum into a major cultural institution in Long Beach and the only accredited art museum in the CSU system. Kaplan’s work is in the permanent collections of the Long Beach Museum of Art; the Huntington Library in Pasadena; and the Kleefeld Contemporary Art Museum at California State University, Long Beach.

Kaplan’s work will be displayed through September 30. The Potocki Center for the Arts is located at 27301 La Paz Road.

Finally, don’t miss the Saddleback Art League’s exhibit at the Mission Viejo Library running through August 12. This juried show features a rich variety of oil paintings, watercolors, and mixed-media pieces created by local artists. The Mission Viejo Library is located at 100 Civic Center.
