Walk with Second Harvest Food Bank Sept. 9 to benefit our local Senior Food program

walk to feed oc

The City teams up with Second Harvest Food Bank to offer a weekly Senior Grocery program with free groceries for seniors at the Norman P. Murray Community Center. Seniors can select perishable and nonperishable items such as meat, dairy, fresh produce and canned goods. Since the pandemic, there has been an increased need for food support among older adults in the community. With support of Second Harvest Food Bank, this program helps roughly 90 households a week.

To ensure the program remains successful, Second Harvest Food Bank is hosting a Walk to Feed OC on Saturday, September 9 to provide a unique walking experience at Irvine-based Tanaka Farms while also raising awareness and funding for programs like the City’s Senior Grocery program. This 1.5-mile walk is kid friendly and includes different food trucks to refuel participants. The goal is to raise enough funding to provide nearly 15 truckloads of fresh produce to Orange County communities.
