Celebrate preserving the ocean, environment at this year’s Symphony in the Cities and Prelude in the Park with the Wyland Foundation

wyland foundation

At this year’s Symphony in the Cities and Prelude in the Park, you can learn about preserving the world’s oceans at the Wyland Foundation’s Mobile Learning Experience.

The fun takes place on Saturday, August 5 on the Village Green at Oso Viejo Community Park, 24932 Veterans Way. The Children’s Musical Playground and Prelude in the Park is from 4 to 7 pm followed by the concert with Pacific Symphony led by Maestro Carl St.Clair at 7 pm.

Staying with the “Under the Sea” theme, the Wyland Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, protecting and preserving the world’s oceans, waterways, and marine life through educational programs, public art projects and community events. During this year’s Prelude in the Park, the Mobile Learning Experience will be onsite for folks to enjoy learning about the world’s oceans. The state-of-the-art bio-diesel science museum on wheels features a 40-person multi-sensory theater and seven interactive stations to learn about water conservation and quality.

The City is encouraging residents to stay environmentally-friendly and bike to the event. Bike racks will be provided in a secure location with a guard.

The City is also challenging the community to forego single-use plastic bottles at the event. Plastic bottles are one of the most common types of marine debris polluting our oceans. You can take one simple step by bringing your own reusable water bottle and filling it for free at one of our refilling stations. Make sure to also stop by the Cultural Services booth during the Prelude and show your reusable water bottle for a chance to win a gift certificate to Captain Dave’s Dolphin & Whale Watching Safari in Dana Point. Let’s do our part to keep plastic out of the ocean!

Stay tuned for more information about Prelude activities and entertainment in the coming weeks.

This sounds so wonderful. Do you have any kind of accommodations for handicapped? Is there any chance you may have transportation from a parking lot to the venue?

I have respiratory issues as well as spine problems.

Thank you for your comment on the News page and interest in attending the Prelude in the Park and Symphony in the Cities event. Shuttle service, in the form of multi-person golf carts, will be onsite to transport folks from the many parking lots, and there will be an abundance of handicapped-accessible parking stalls close to the site.
