Enjoy bevy of artistic classes for all ages at new Potocki Center for the Arts

Get ready to tap your creative side with a cornucopia of original, artistic classes at the new Potocki Center for the Arts. Registration is underway for the following spring classes:

WINE & ECO-CHIC JEWELRY
Create one-of-a-kind artistic jewelry using repurposed materials in this fun-filled two-hour class at 7 pm on Friday, March 2.  Make beautiful “pulp stones” that look like real gems while sipping a glass of wine. This program caters to adults 21 and older. Cost is $35 plus $15 lab fee payable to the instructor. Register via course #13525.

WOVEN PAPER BASKET
Design and create a unique and stylish woven paper basket using vintage book pages, junk mail and other upcycled paper. This fun two-hour class takes place at 10 am Friday, March 16 and is open to people 10 and older. Cost is $35 plus a $10 lab fee payable to the instructor. Register via course #13527.

UPCYCLED BOOK BIRDHOUSE
Make a lovely birdhouse using vintage books and other upcycled materials.  It’s the perfect decoration for spring and summer and will make a great gift. This program is from 10 am to noon Friday, March 30 for people 10 and older. Cost is $35 plus a $10 lab fee payable to the instructor. Register via course #13528.

POTTERY 3-DAY JOIN-A-GROUP WORKSHOP
Learn hand-building clay techniques and experience throwing clay pots on the potter’s wheel with artist Valerie Gutierrez. Glaze your beautiful handmade art pieces and take them home.  This three-hour program is at 2 pm on Saturdays March 17, March 24 and 31. It caters to people 5 and older (ages 5-9 must be accompanied by an enrolled adult). Cost is $60 plus a $10 lab fee payable to the instructor. Register via Course #13420.

UNCORK YOUR PAINTING POTENTIAL
Guided by professional artist Renee Keady, you will create a painting to take home. Paint your own interpretation or one that closely resembles the inspiration piece. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. on March 7 and is for people 21 and older. Cost is $30 plus a $10 lab fee payable to the instructor. Register via course #13423.

DRAWING BIRDS WITH PASTELS
Guided by professional artist Renee Keady, you will use pastels to create beautiful artwork while listening to soothing music. No experience is necessary and all supplies are provided. This two-hour program starts at 9 a.m. on March 27. Cost is $40. Register via course #13427.

MANDALA ART
Learn the art of the Mandala, drawing a series of concentric circles, designs and patterns in a balance of visual elements, symbolizing unity and harmony. This two-hour class at 9 am on March 13 caters to all ages. Cost is $20. Register via course #13430.  Private classes for groups are also available by calling 949- 470-8440.

INTRO TO LAPIDARY: STONE PENDANTS
Learn to use a professional flat lapidary equipment to shape, sand and polish a rough semi-precious stone (lapis lazuli, agate, or jasper, etc.) into a beautiful gem pendant. The program starts at 11 a.m. on March 24 and caters to people 16 and older. Cost is $40 plus a $15 lab fee to the instructor. Register via course #13398.

KIDDIEBOP HARMONICA CIRCLE
Join our fun and playful kids’ workshop every Wednesday at 4 p.m. March 14 through May 16 and learn the basics of playing the harmonica using familiar tunes such as "Amazing Grace" and Beatles’ favorites. Program is open to youth aged 6-16. Cost is $70 plus an $8 harmonica fee payable to the instructor. Register via course #13490.

BOOMER BLUES HARMONICA CIRCLE
Savor a weekly adults’ workshop in the basics of diatonic-scale harmonica, or "Blues Harp," emphasizing playing styles of harmonica greats Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson. The program takes place every Wednesday at 7 p.m. March 14 through May 16. Register via course  #13492.

BEGINNING UKULELE WITH RON GORMAN
Just one strum of the ukulele sparks a smile. Bring your ukulele and enjoy learning to play the world’s easiest string instrument in a supportive small-group setting. Program takes place on Fridays at 6 p.m. March 23-April 20 for people 10 and older. Cost is $99. Register via course #13394.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY 101
Learn digital photography - menus, resolution, ISO, shutter and more every Monday at 7 p.m. March 19 through April 9.  This class includes how to shoot portraits, sports and night scenes.  Bring a charged camera and its manual. Course is open to people 16 and older. Cost is $75. Register via course #13412.

LANDSCAPE & TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY
This four-week class focuses on storytelling and creating moods with your camera; using composition, perspective, color and light.  Experience is not necessary.  Class is every Thursday at 7 p.m. March 19-29. Friendly critiques are included.   Cost is $55. Register via course #13629.

SHOOT BETTER DIGITAL PHOTOS
This hands-on workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. March 24 ends the confusion about your camera’s menus, focusing, flash, ISO and more. Learn to shoot photographs and not snapshots! Bring a charged camera and manual. Cost is $45. Register via course #13415.

FUNDAMENTALS OF DRAWING FOR KIDS
Learn drawing fundamentals while discovering your creative side every Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. March 6, 13, 20 and March 27. Yoko Collin teaches basic fine art while developing your budding artist's eye using charcoal, graphite and pastels. Program is for ages 10-17. Cost is $80. Register via course #13493.
 
FUNDAMENTALS OF DRAWING FOR ADULTS
Learn drawing fundamentals while discovering your creative side. Yoko Collin teaches basic fine art while developing your budding artist's eye using charcoal, graphite and pastels. JOYFUL OIL PAINTING WITH YOKO COLLIN
Learn oil painting from basics through advanced techniques while discovering your creative side every Thursday at 6 p.m. March 1, 8, 15 and March 22. This class is for beginners to advanced-level artists. Some supplies included. Cost is $100 plus a $10 lab fee payable to the instructor. Register via course #13405.

COLLAGE WORKSHOPS WITH DENISE KATZENBERGER
Prepare papers using dyes, rubberstamps and mono-prints. Then design art pieces with collage and texture on a variety of surfaces. Incorporate calligraphy, lines, color and texture to finish.  A list of materials will be provided upon registration. Course is every Tuesday at 1 p.m. March 6, 13 and March 20. Cost is $60. MIXED-MEDIA PERSONAL STYLE
Develop your personal style by incorporating paint, drawing media, inks, resists and collage. Explore representational and abstract imagery through color theory, composition and design basics.  A list of materials will be provided upon registration.  This class is every Thursday at 1 p.m. March 8- April 12. QIGONG SHIBASHI INTENSIVE
Learn Shibashi, a Qigong series of 18 gentle, flowing exercises that build strength and balance and are relaxing and joyful. This program is from 10 a.m. to noon March 10 and March 31. Cost is $60. Register via course #13488.
