Free drive-through E-Waste & Household Hazardous Waste Collection March 16

ewaste

The City is partnering with Waste Management to host a free drive-through E-Waste & Household Hazardous Waste Collection from 9-11 am Saturday, March 16 in the City Hall parking lot, 200 Civic Center. This event gives residents a free, safe and convenient way to properly dispose of hazardous items.

Proof of residency is required with a valid identification card, and residents must remain in their vehicles. No business waste or walk-ups are allowed. There is a limit of 125 pounds or 15 gallons per vehicle, and each container must not exceed 5 gallons.

Hazardous waste includes flammable, corrosive, reactive or toxic products.  Dangerous to the public and environment, these products must be disposed of properly. It is illegal to dump hazardous waste in a trash container.

Acceptable items include pool chemicals, household cleaners, garden chemicals, paint products and thinners, thermometers, fluorescent light bulbs and tubes, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, batteries and electronic items.

Do not bring sharps, ammunition, appliances larger than microwaves, asbestos, construction materials, leaking containers, pressurized cylinders, trash, explosives, radioactive waste, biomedical waste, tires or unknown items.

Is the disposal of laptops and desk top PCs considered secure - i.e., hard drives will be securely disposed of? Thanks, Jeff

Thank you for your comment on the News page and interest in the free drive-through E-Waste & Household Hazardous Waste Collection event. The e-waste collection company does not take responsibility for keeping secure any remaining data left on computers and hard drives and all residents are strongly advised to wipe hard drives before disposal. If you would like to be extra secure, you may wish to “destroy” the hard drive by running a nail through it or otherwise damaging the hard drive so that it can never be booted up.
