Outstanding efforts recognized by City Council Tuesday

council meeting

The City Council on Tuesday recognized an Animal Services Officer for saving the life of a child along with outstanding Marines and a youth baseball team, among other business including approving a new triathlon in Mission Viejo.

While manning a booth at the National Night Out event earlier this month, Mission Viejo Animal Services Officer David Lim quickly responded to a frantic mother whose child was experiencing breathing difficulties.  Without hesitation, David rushed to the scene and performed the Heimlich maneuver, successfully dislodging a large gumball from the 5-year-old child's airway. He was recognized by Mayor Brian Goodell and Director of Animal Services Michelle Claud-Clemente for his quick actions in saving the child’s life.

In addition to his extraordinary efforts, Council Members feted the adopted Headquarters Battalion of the 1st Marine Division’s “Marines of the Quarter” Cpl. Rhoda T. Agyemang and LCPL Juan P. Torres, and the “Noncommissioned Officers of the Quarter” Sgt. Cameron N. Hermanet and Cpl. Loagen H. Antle.

The South County Trojans 12U Travel Ball Baseball Team was also recognized for winning the Cooperstown All Star Village Tournament.

In other business, the City Council approved a request by Empower Multisport to host the 2024 USA Triathlon Collegiate Club National Championships April 13-14. This will be an additional triathlon in town. For the last 15 years, the City has hosted the OC Triathlon at Lake Mission Viejo and the surrounding area.

Council Members also voted against an agreement to explore the potential of the World Cup Soccer Field at 27301 La Paz being used as a cricket facility.
