Special presentations highlight the inspiration of this community

The City Council on Tuesday honored Orange County Sheriff’s Department K-9 “Keto” and his handler Deputy Craig Sanders for their efforts to keep our City safe – as well as other individuals who inspire this community.

Though these police dogs can be intimidating, Keto displayed his fun, goofy side to a captivated audience which learned about how this crime-fighting canine was stabbed on his first assignment (though completely recovered) and what he did to diffuse a critical situation in the City last week.

Mission Viejo High School swimmer Alexis Unter was recognized for being selected to the USA Down Syndrome Swimming (USADSS) National Team.  She talked about the upcoming 10th Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships in Albufeira, Portugal and was joined by Mission Viejo High School Coach T Sorenson, who was selected as an assistant coach of the USADSS National Team.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the Friends of the Library spoke about the all-volunteer group’s momentous efforts over the years to raise money to support the library.

As the City reported, the City Council also established the voting process for the upcoming general election on November 8. As a result, all five newly established City Council districts will be up for election for four-year terms. The filing period to run for City Council is July 18 to August 12, and residents can find more information on how to embark on the process of running for City Council via the City Clerk’s Office webpages.

Per Council policy established in 1994, Council meetings are traditionally dark for parts of July and August; therefore, the next meeting is set for August 23.
