Lieutenant Quyen Vuong, a 20-year law enforcement veteran, is the City of Mission Viejo's new Chief of Police Services.

Lt. Vuong, who simply goes by "Q," has returned to familiar territory, having worked as a deputy and School Resource Officer (SRO) in town for 5 years. He comes to the Chief of Police post with a wealth of experience under his belt. In his last role, he served in the Sheriff's custody and court operations command where he managed a staff of more than 200 employees.

The Mission Viejo resident and parolee suspected of robbing nine local retailers is set to appear in court on January 12.

Mission Viejo Police Services is warning residents to beware of a blackmail scam, after a resident reported receiving an extortion letter in the mail from someone looking to collect a $2,500 bitcoin payment.

Registration is available for the "Fraud & Cyber-Crimes" workshop on January 24. 

Part of the Orange County Sheriff's Department's "Stay Safe OC" Partners in Crime Prevention Workshop series, the program is from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way. 

The workshop series is geared to help residents learn valuable information on current crime trends and safety practices that can help deter crime in the community.
