Amazing local artists celebrated in Mission Viejo

art

The City is celebrating local artists with impressive displays and receptions at Mission Viejo facilities.

When you stop by the Mission Viejo Library, check out a stunning display of quilts by textile artist Jeanette Floyd. Many of the pieces celebrate African American history and culture. The 2024 Poetry + Art Collaborative is another amazing exhibit that should not be missed. It is the culmination of a project that brings people together through literature and art. Also on display at the library is nature photography by Rose Fredendall that includes images of local scenery and the artist's travels. Laura E. Brown’s display boasts intricate historical costuming work. The library is located at 100 Civic Center.

Over at the Potocki Center for the Arts is a vibrant display of paintings and drawings by students at the HOPE Center for the Arts, a local nonprofit organization that serves adults with intellectual disabilities. Art lovers of all ages are invited to the HOPE Center's Summer Showcase from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday, July 14. This fun and free event includes an exhibit reception and live musical performance by the Hi Hopes ensemble. The Potocki Center is located at 27301 La Paz Road.

Drop by the Norman P. Murray Center to see the Mission Viejo Community Cookbook exhibit featuring selections from the newly published cookbook “Mission Viejo: Our Stories, Our Food.” The display includes beautifully photographed dishes and excerpts from contributors’ personal narratives. The community is invited to attend an exhibit reception from noon to 2 pm on Saturday, June 29 at 24932 Veterans Way.
