Arizona Jake is a diamond in the rough

Arizona Jake is a purebred Bluetick Coonhound, a rare breed in this area and diamond in the rough for hound lovers.  Arizona is typical for this breed: well-muscled, sleek and racy and ready-to-go anywhere on a moment’s notice.  Blueticks are named for their gorgeous mottled or “ticked” black and blue pattern of their coat.   Like all coonhound breeds, the bluetick is an American creation, dating back to the founding of the country.  At that time, they were used by frontiersmen to track prey and are still used for this in many areas of the nation. 

Because of this, blueticks tend to have a strong prey drive, so Arizona Jake may not be well-suited to live with small animals.  He does love all people and would probably be happy in an active home with kids of all ages.  Like all blueticks, Arizona Jake has a baying bark, which is music to the ears of hound lovers, but can be cacophonous to others.  To keep him quiet and satisfied, Jake will benefit from plenty of exercise.  He would enjoy play sessions and long walks but would thrive in canine sports-like fields and tracks.
