Be a ‘Hunger Champion’
The City of Mission Viejo is encouraging residents to be “Hunger Champions†as part of an ongoing effort to end hunger in the region.
September marks “Hunger Action Month,†a nationwide campaign to mobilize the public to take action on the issue of hunger. In Orange County alone, hunger affects more than 315,000 residents. Nearly half – 129,000 – are children.
Along with dropping off canned and nonperishable food items throughout the year at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center and Mission Viejo Library, Hunger Champions can support organizations via social media. Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County (@SecondHarvestFoodBankOC) is seeking to raise awareness of the less fortunate in our community via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
The City of Mission Viejo continues to do its part as a Hunger Champion. In June, the City held a food drive in honor of “Hunger Awareness Month.†More recently, the City gathered school supplies to benefit local children through Family Assistance Ministries, which works to prevent hunger and homelessness in Orange County.
