Bestselling author Melanie Benjamin presents new novel about superstar Mary Pickford Jan. 31

Melanie Benjamin

New York Times bestselling author Melanie Benjamin will present her latest release “The Girls in the Picture” on Wednesday, January 31.

The program begins at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center Drive.

“The Girls in the Picture” is a fascinating novel of the friendship and creative partnership between two of Hollywood's earliest female legends—superstar Mary Pickford and screenwriter Frances Marion. The story begins in Hollywood in 1914 when 25-year-old Frances Marion arrives in Tinseltown fleeing a second disastrous marriage and determined to make it as an artist. A twist of fate propels her headlong into the dressing room of America’s first superstar Mary Pickford and into a friendship that will define both their lives and extraordinary careers.

Melanie Benjamin is noted for her earlier novels “The Aviator’s Wife”; “The Swans of Fifth Avenue”; “The Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb”; and “Alice I Have Been.”
