Cancer survivors, caregivers sought for special ceremony June 8
Relay For Life of South Orange County is inviting cancer survivors and caregivers to take part in a special opening ceremony celebrating survivorship at 9 am on Saturday, June 8 at Oso Viejo Park, 24932 Veterans Way.
Relay for Life is a fun-filled overnight event that celebrates survivors and raises money for research and programs through the American Cancer Society. As part of the celebration known as the “survivors’ lap,” organizers are creating a paper chain representing the number of years of cancer survivorship and caregiving.
“We hope to create a chain long enough to circle the track,” said the City’s Denise Matson.
Following the survivors’ lap, survivors, who will receive a purple T-shirt, and caregivers will enjoy a special breakfast.
“We define a survivor as anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life – and really hope folks will join us for the opening ceremony and festivities,” Denise said.
