City and Mission Hospital working to expand ‘Stop the Bleeding’ training

""

KNBC TV reporter Vikki Vargas was in Mission Viejo today filming a story about our City’s second “Stop the Bleeding” training.  Our City is proactively working to expand the Stop the Bleed program through Mission Hospital’s Trauma Center to train, equip and empower school administrators, teachers, staff and community bystanders to stop active and life-threatening bleeding.

This effort is the first link in the chain of survival after a traumatic event, and something the City has been practicing since first partnering with Mission Hospital last year to train City employees. More than likely, if there is an incident in our area, the person trained in this program will be the first on the scene.

Council Members Wendy Bucknum and Trish Kelley were on hand for the training along with Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD) Trustee Judy Bullockus; CUSD Executive Director of Safety and Student Services Mike Beekman; Saddleback Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) Director of Communications and Administrative Services Mark Perez; and SVUSD Director of Student Services Monique Yessian.

“We at the City of Mission Viejo want to work with our area schools; administrators; teachers; students; businesses; organizations; and individuals to provide the proper training so that in the event of a traumatic incident, more people will know what to do to buy potential victims a few extra minutes to get them to the trauma center and save their lives,” said Emergency Services Manager Paul Catsimanes.

The TV news segment is expected to air on the Channel 4 News at 4:45 p.m. today.
