City Council Candidate Nomination Period begins July 16

Election 2018

The filing period to run for Mission Viejo City Council opens Monday, July 16 and ends Friday, August 10.  Candidate packets must be picked up in-person at City Hall, 200 Civic Center.

Three City Council seats are open in the General Municipal Election, which takes place on November 6.  Candidates have until 5 p.m. on August 10 to file nomination documents and statements of qualification for office. The deadline extends to Wednesday, August 15 if an incumbent is not running for re-election and does not file papers by the August 10 deadline.

To qualify, a candidate must reside in Mission Viejo and be registered to vote at the time nomination paperwork is picked up. There is no fee to run for City Council; however, candidates may submit a “Candidate’s Statement” for the Voter Information Pamphlet for a fee of $1,000.

For more information or to schedule an appointment to review the candidate packet and process, contact the City Clerk’s office at 949-470-3052 or cityclerk@cityofmissionviejo.org.
