The State Department of Housing and Community Development approved and certified the City’s Housing Element, part of the City’s General Plan that includes programs and objectives to further the development, improvement and preservation of housing, City Manager Dennis Wilberg reported during Tuesday’s City Council meeting. The City hosted multiple community workshops over the past year and worked closely with the State to get the element into compliance with State law. The adopted Housing Element not only complies with the state goals and objectives but also helps maintain the unique character of Mission Viejo.

In addition, Council Members approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Pacific Symphony to host a sensory-friendly concert at the Norman P. Murray Center on March 2; chamber music concert at the Jeronimo Tunnel on April 17; and two Symphony on the Go concerts on May 24 and June 16. Similar events were held over the past year, which generated positive public feedback and media attention.

In the presentation portion of the meeting, Council members recognized the Mission Viejo High School football team for winning the CIF State Division 1-AA Championship. The  game pitted the Diablos against legendary De La Salle at Saddleback College. Mayor Trish Kelley presented certificates to the players and coaches for their hard work and accomplishments. Coach Chad Johnson also spoke about growing up in the area and how the team appreciates the heartfelt community support.

The City Council normally meets at 6 pm on the second Tuesday of the month. Meetings are streamed live on the City’s website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
