Council recognizes athletes and approves agreements with deep-rooted organizations
The City Council on Tuesday recognized some outstanding athletes who won the 2023 USA Diving Junior Nationals at the Marguerite Aquatics Complex as well as approved agreements with the Nadadores and a youth-oriented musical theatre program, among other business.
The Council recognized the Mission Viejo Nadadores who won the Team Championship this summer at the 2023 USA Diving Junior Nationals at the Marguerite Aquatics Complex. Divers from across the country, who stayed in local hotels and patronized Mission Viejo establishments, competed in this prestigious event. Michele Mitchell, executive director of the Nadadores Foundation, spoke about the hard work and perseverance of the athletes and how well the lessons learned through swimming and diving about dedication, time management and teamwork prepare them for success in any field.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the Council also passed the amendment to the Facilities Use Agreement with the Nadadores for use of the Marguerite Aquatics Complex.
As plans are being developed and reviewed for the future of the MART building at 25282 Marguerite Parkway over the next 15 months, the Council approved an agreement with the theater group Bravo Players Guild for the temporary use of a portion of the building. Bravo Players Guild is a youth-oriented musical theatre program for children aged 7-17. Participants and parents of the program spoke about how impactful this theater group has been on their lives.
In other Council news, Council Members recognized September as Children’s Emotional Wellness Month and presented a proclamation to the Extraordinary Lives Foundation. The proclamation is meant to help bring awareness to the importance of children’s emotional well-being and mitigate mental health challenges later in life.
