Council will recognize outstanding individuals, efforts and consider Mid-Year Budget
The City Council on Tuesday, March 12 will recognize some outstanding individuals and organizations and consider the City’s Mid-Year Budget for Fiscal Year 2023-24.
The business part of the meeting begins at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.
During the presentation portion of the meeting, the Mission Viejo Community Foundation will receive a check from the nonprofit Care 4 the Children. The funds stem from an innovative approach to repainting curb addresses on public streets. House numbers appropriately painted and maintained on curbs allow firefighters, police and emergency medical crews to find the target address while still in their vehicles. As State labor laws now make curb address painting extremely costly for public agencies, the City opted for Care 4 the Children to perform the work on a voluntary donation basis. Proceeds went to help folks in need with 20 percent of net proceeds ($7,556) going to the Mission Viejo Community Foundation. The foundation provides services and funding resources through public-private partnerships for social, cultural, recreational, patriotic, military and educational needs that enhance the quality of life for the community of Mission Viejo.
The Council will also recognize "Marine of the Quarter" Lance Corporal Nathan Heed and "Noncommissioned Officers of the Quarter" Sergeant Nathaniel Fayard and Sergeant Renee Ried for their individual, outstanding efforts.
Council Members will also receive a presentation from Waste Management to showcase the achievements of City staff and Waste Management since the commencement of the new franchise agreement on January 1, 2021. The presentation will cover updates on milestones achieved in compliance with Senate Bill 1383 and the success of implemented organic recycling programs. Additionally, future events organized by Waste Management and the City will be highlighted including the e-waste and household hazardous waste collection event on March 16; document shredding event on March 23; compost workshop on April 6; and compost giveaway on April 27.
In addition to designating March as American Red Cross Month, Council Members will review and consider the Mid-Year Budget for Fiscal Year 2023-24.
