Firefighter Lance Day has been named the Orange County Fire Authority's 2023 Mission Viejo Employee of the Year.

His strong work ethic and commitment to the City of Mission Viejo has earned him the respect of peers, supervisors, and community members alike.

Firefighter Day's journey as a member of Engine 31 is not just a testament to his dedication to firefighting but also a story of exceptional character, attention to detail, care for others, and remarkable leadership shaped by his distinguished military service, said Battalion Chief Jason Tayor when nominating him for the distinction.

Firefighter Day began his work two years ago with the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) after finishing a 20-year career in the United States Marine Corps (USMC). In his short time with OCFA, Firefighter Day has proved to be a selfless informal leader amongst his peers. His maturity and kind nature along with his previous leadership in the USMC bring something special to the citizens of Mission Viejo. He is actively involved in OCFA's military recruitment and exhibits the highest standards each day.

Firefighter Day's leadership ability, a product of his military service, is a beacon for OCFA and will continue to benefit the department for years to come. In times of crisis, his calm and strategic approach inspires confidence among his peers, fostering a culture of collaboration and dedication.

In addition to his decorated military service, Firefighter Day is recognized for his commitment to the safety and well-being of our community.

"His meticulous attention to detail is a hallmark of his service, setting a standard of excellence within our battalion and agency in the years to come as he progresses in his second career with OCFA," said Battalion Chief Taylor.

Firefighter Day's exceptional qualities, outstanding leadership, and significant positive impact on our community certainly make him an outstanding employee of the year.

The City of Mission Viejo appreciates Firefighter Day's vast efforts and commitment to his field.  He will be honored by the City Council in January.
