Free film screening June 24 features copy of Declaration of Independence

Declaration of independence

Don’t miss the free screening of the historic film “John Adams: Independence” on Sunday, June 24.

Sponsored by the Mission Viejo Community of Character Committee, the film presentation starts at 2 p.m. in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center. It is designed to highlight Mission Viejo’s June character trait of “citizenship.”

The film is based upon David McCollough’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book “John Adams” and the role he played in writing and getting the Declaration of Independence passed by the Second Continental Congress of 1776.  Other major characters featured in this dramatic story include Abigail Adams, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson.

After the film presentation, the character “John Adams” will discuss the values contained in the Declaration of Independence and how folks today can demonstrate “good citizenship” on July 4.

The film is not rated and is appropriate for all ages.  Every person who attends the event will receive a copy of the Declaration of Independence.
