See free Movie of Character Sunday, March 17

movie film

The Mission Viejo Community of Character Committee will screen "Mr. Holland's Opus" at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 17 as part of its free movie of character series.

"Mr. Holland's Opus" is a 1995 drama film starring Richard Dreyfuss in the role of high school music teacher Glenn Holland. In 1965, Holland takes a day job as a high school music teacher, convinced it's just a small obstacle on the road to his true calling - writing a historical opus. As the decades roll by with the composition unwritten but generations of students inspired by his teaching, Holland must redefine his life's purpose. Dreyfuss earned an Oscar nomination for his outstanding work in this emotional drama. The film is rated PG and is suitable for people of all ages. Music teachers and their students are encouraged to attend and share the experience.

The film will be shown on a theater-sized screen with theater-style seating in the Mission Viejo Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center Drive.

A discussion follows the film about how the movie relates to the character traits we celebrate in Mission Viejo.
