Free screening of critically acclaimed movie Feb. 19
Don’t miss a free screening of “Hidden Figures” on Sunday, February 19 as part of the movies of character program.
Sponsored by the Mission Viejo Community of Character Committee, the screening starts at 1:15 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.
The story follows a team of female African-American mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program. The film received critical acclaim for the performances – particularly of Taraji Henson and Octavia Spencer – as well as praise for the writing, direction, cinematography, emotional tone, and historical accuracy.
The National Board of Review chose "Hidden Figures" as one of the top 10 films of 2016, and it received various awards and nominations including a Best Picture Academy Awards nomination. The movie also won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The film also stars Janelle Monáe, Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge, and Glen Powell.
