Free seminar will help protect public against cyber crimes

Mission Viejo residents and business owners are invited to a free seminar designed to protect them from cyber crimes on the rise in Orange County.

Registration is now available for the seminar that takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

Led by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Cyber Crimes Detail, the seminar will focus on phishing scams, business email compromise, network intrusions, ransomware and malware and vishing scams. Participants will gain vital information about these potential threats and learn what to do if they’ve been compromised.

The Cyber Crimes Detail, which launched last July, is the only unit in Orange County that specifically investigates cyber-attacks. The detail is also a member of multiple federal task forces focused on high-tech crimes.

Registration is required by contacting 949-470-8433 or crimeprevention@cityofmissionviejo.org.
