International guitar champion returns to Mission Viejo Sept. 9

Richard Smith, dubbed one of the best “fingerstyle” guitarists around, will perform a special concert on Saturday, September 9.
 
The Lord of the Strings’ presentation begins at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 200 Civic Center.
 
Smith’s musical roots run deep, having first picked up the guitar at the age of 5. In his early career, he focused on the fingerstyle guitar of Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed and later delved into classical music, jazz, bluegrass, ragtime, blues and even Sousa marches.  Now with thousands of performances under his belt, Smith has become renowned worldwide for his talents and entertaining shows. He’s won several awards along the way and was inducted into the National Thumbpickers Hall of Fame in 2009.
