Learn how to identify old photos from genealogy expert Sept. 15

If you receive an old photograph collection filled with unidentified people, what can you do?  Old photos have many clues that can help us determine the time and place, and sometimes, even the people. On Saturday, September 15, genealogy expert Gary Fredericksen will join the South Orange County California Genealogical Society in discussing methods for identifying photos with examples of the different types of photographs used during the twentieth century. During this informative discussion, you will learn how to use clothing styles, image format and other information to identify your old family photographs.

Gary is president of the Sun City Palm Desert Genealogy Club; newsletter editor for the Palm Springs Genealogical Society; and a frequent presenter at Southern California genealogy societies. He is also a genealogy teacher for the College of the Desert Learning in Retirement Program. The presentation starts at 10 a.m. after a short business meeting and ends at noon.

Visitors are invited to this free Saturday program that includes refreshments. The society meets at 27976 Marguerite Parkway at Hillcrest Drive.  Park and enter behind the LDS church.  For more information, contact silkberry@aol.com.

The SOCCGS Genealogy Research Center located at the Mission Viejo Library is open seven days a week with docents available to assist you.  Visit www.soccgs.org for more information.
