Mission Viejo Mayor Launches Coalition to Secure OC Schools

Ed Sachs giving speech

With the unacceptable recurring gun violence and mass shootings affecting schools around the country, Mission Viejo Mayor Ed Sachs was joined today by five Mayors, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, and Representatives of the Capistrano Unified School District to announce the formation of “Secure OC Schools.”

The coalition is the first regional effort in South Orange County to combat school gun violence. The task force will meet within 30 days to study in detail how local agencies can uniformly pool resources to fill in potential gaps in campus safety for students.

Members of the coalition include Mayor Sachs, Orange County Sheriff's Department Undersheriff Don Barnes, Capistrano Unified School District Trustee Judy Bullockus, Rancho Santa Margarita Mayor Mike Vaughn, Laguna Hills Mayor Melody Carruth, Laguna Niguel Mayor Elaine Gennawey, Dana Point Mayor Richard Viczorek, Dana Point Mayor Pro Tem Joe Mueller, and Lake Forest Council Member Scott Voigts.
