Mission Viejo weathers Tropical Storm Hilary

tree uprooted

City of Mission Viejo staff and contractors were busy throughout the weekend as Tropical Storm Hilary caused downed trees and debris in the streets but no major damage to our community.

To ensure residents were equipped with sandbags to help prevent potential flooding, City staff worked to keep sandbags replenished and distributed roughly 3,500 bags.

The American Red Cross offered a sheltering location at the Norman P. Murray Center for canyon residents impacted by flooding. Two people took advantage of those services.

Throughout the weekend, Mission Viejo staff assisted with any emergency efforts, and City landscape and tree contractors responded to calls about downed trees and debris in the roadways.

Staff will continue clean-up efforts throughout this week to ensure storm drains are cleared again and tree debris is removed from the public right-of-way.
