Mission Viejo will salute our heroes virtually and through banner tribute
Mission Viejo will pay homage to the men and women who gave their lives for our freedoms during a Virtual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 31.
The program will air at 8:30 am on MVTV (Cox Channel 30 and AT&T Channel 99) and on the City's YouTube channel with additional programming throughout the day. To ensure more inclusivity, the ceremony will include an American Sign Language interpreter.
Marine Corps Colonel Seth W. B. Folsom will serve as the keynote speaker with guest speaker and local resident Brigadier General (CSG) Denton Knapp, Director of the Tierney Center for Veteran Services.
Along with the online ceremony, the City will host a drive-through American Heroes Banner Tribute May 1 through June 4 at the Mission Viejo Civic Center. The banners honor United States military personnel who gave their lives in the War on Terror in Afghanistan and Iraq and the families they left behind. To show respect for people in uniform who bravely served and continue to serve our country, residents are encouraged to take an educational tour of Military Uniforms: Past, Present and Future by visiting The History of Uniforms and specific uniforms of the Army, Navy, (female Navy uniforms), Air Force and Marines.
