OC Triathlon-Duathlon set for Sunday at Lake Mission Viejo

Triathlon athletes

Hundreds of elite athletes are gearing up for the annual Orange County Triathlon-Duathlon on Sunday, June 3 at Lake Mission Viejo.

This Olympic-distance event traverses Mission Viejo neighborhoods and surrounding communities and includes a 1.5K swim in Lake Mission Viejo. Athletes then ride along the 40K bike course through Santiago Canyon, with part of the race crossing the 1984 Olympic finish line near the lake. With challenging paths, trails and streets, the 10K tests the runners’ stamina and agility.

Residents should be aware of several road closures Sunday:

Marguerite Parkway: La Barca to El Toro Rd. – 7 - 9 a.m.
Marguerite Parkway: Vista del Lago to La Barca – 5:30 - 11 a.m.
Los Alisos Blvd: Novena to Entidad – 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.
Olympiad Road: Melinda Rd to Marguerite – 5:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Note: Melinda Road entrance to Lake Mission Viejo will remain open to athletes and lake members.

The Mission Viejo community has rallied to make the OC Triathlon-Duathlon a long-standing event that helps local and national charities.
