Outstanding individuals, groups feted and robust budget adopted by City Council
The City Council on Tuesday recognized outstanding members of the City's adopted Headquarters Battalion of the 1st Marine Division; Lucy Dunn as Hometown Hero; and CIF girls softball champions, among other business.
For their outstanding efforts, Lance Corporal Andres Cervantes was recognized as "Marine of the Quarter" and Sergeant Destiny Dempsey as "Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter."
Lucy Dunn, who has led the Orange County Business Council as president and CEO for more than 16 years, was honored as Mission Viejo's Hometown Hero. This award was created in 1996 to identify and recognize folks whose noble qualities and personal achievements make them heroes worthy of our admiration.
Along with the recognitions, which also included a proclamation for the 50th Anniversary of Title IX and recognition of the Mission Viejo High School girls softball team's CIF Division II Championship, the City Council adopted a revised budget for Fiscal Year 2022-23. The robust budget reflects General Fund revenue and other resources increasing by more than $4.5 million. This boon to City coffers is reflective of our local businesses rebounding strongly from the pandemic.
The Council meets at 6 pm on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 200 Civic Center. Meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
