Outstanding individuals will be feted and new agreement with neighboring cities considered May 28

Council Meeting Update

The Council on Tuesday, May 28 will recognize some exemplary and talented individuals as well as consider a Community Outreach and Partnership Agreement with two neighboring cities.

The business portion of the meeting starts at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.

During the presentation portion of the meeting, the Medal of Valor Award recipients from the Orange County Sheriff's Department as well as the recipients of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Awards will be recognized for their individual, outstanding efforts.

Council Members will also recognize members of the Mission Viejo Nadadores swimming and diving teams who will compete in the upcoming Olympic Trials.

In an effort to raise awareness to preventable tragedies, the Council will proclaim the months of May through August as Drowning Prevention and Awareness Season. Drowning remains the leading cause of death and disability in California for children under five. For every child who dies from drowning, another seven receive emergency care for non-fatal submersion injuries.

Chief of Police Services Captain Ivins will also give an update about recent crime trends in the area.

In other news, as discussed at the April 23 meeting, the Council will consider awarding a Community Outreach and Partnership Agreement with the cities of Laguna Hills and Rancho Santa Margarita. Council Members will also consider approving a Special Event Permit for the Mission Viejo Activities Committee to host the annual Mission Viejo Fourth of July Community Street Faire.

Meetings are streamed live on the City’s website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
