Register for adult, kids Spirit League programming today
The Spirit League, which provides sports programming for special needs adults and children, is gearing up for summer and fall with fun volleyball and soccer seasons.
Registration is underway for the new Adult Summer Volleyball Season for ages 18-30 that takes place every Thursday from July 8 through August 19 at the Felipe Tennis and Recreation Center. Register through June 15 at SpiritLeague.org. Volleyball is a social game and requires communication with others on the team both during practice and games. The league teaches athletes the fundamentals of the game including how to communicate with teammates. Weekly scrimmages will be played, and equipment provided for the season. Athletes who may be sensitive to a sand court should wear volleyball sand socks or other athletic footwear appropriate for sand.
For younger players ages 6-22, the Youth Soccer Season takes place every Saturday from September 11 through November 13. Register through July 20 at SpiritLeague.org. This 10-week Soccer Season takes place at the Oso Fields in Mission Viejo. Online registration is from June 7 through July 20. Soccer is a visual sport. Athletes will work on motor-planning skills, keeping their eyes on the ball and being aware of their surroundings in addition to the fundamentals of the sport. Whether your athlete is new to soccer or has played with the league for several seasons, players are invited to join this fun league in September.
The City of Mission Viejo works with the Spirit League as part of its SNAP (Special Needs Adaptive Programming) initiative – designed to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to partake in adaptive programs and experience the mental, physical, emotional and social aspects of sports and recreation.
