If you’ve never been to a luau, now’s your chance without even leaving Mission Viejo!  That’s right: On Sunday, August 13, the Senior Citizens Activities Committee is hosting a festive luau for the entire family from 1-3 p.m. at the Norman P. Murray Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

You’ll nosh on chop-chop salad; lemon rosemary roasted veggies; fried rice; coconut chicken breast w/grilled pineapple salsa; Hawaiian sweet rolls and macadamia nut cookies while enjoying Polynesian live music and dancing. Mahalo! Cost is $5 in advance by registering online at https://econnect.cityofmissionviejo.org and referencing course #5357.

Then on Friday, August 18, seniors are invited to a tropical Hawaiian luau hosted by AgeWell Services. The fun begins at 11:30 a.m. and guests will savor sweet-and-sour chicken, pineapple coleslaw and orange coconut cake while enjoying soothing island music performed by The Ukulele Strummers. The suggested donation for seniors (60 and older) is $4.50. General admission is $6. Reservations are required and available by calling 470-3063.

If you want to tap your creative side, consider signing up for the Japanese Origami, Games and Calligraphy program from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 9. During this free one-time program, students from Saddleback College will teach you some of the basics of these interesting Japanese traditions.
