Summer Camps

STEAM + MINECRAFT ADVENTURE GAME USING LEGO
Prepare for a full day with PlayWell Teknologies LEGO camp of hands-on and minds-on STEAM fun.  Resourcefulness, creativity and cooperation come together in this unique building adventure game. Participants roll the dice to mine for resources, craft tools and watch out for creepers. They will learn this original game created by PlayWell instructors and inspired by the popular Minecraft video game.  This camp takes place August 6-10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for youth 7-12.  Cost is $300 per week. ANIMATION FLIX
Create up to five stop-motion animated flix!  Each day, learn a new style as you create, direct and film your movies in this ultimate arts and crafts camp.  Cost is $210 per week for ages 7-12.  The camp takes place from 9 a.m. to noon August 13-17.  (Course #17491)  

MINECRAFT MOVIE FLIX
Bring Steve, the creepers and more to life as we turn the video game into an exciting Minecraft stop-motion movie.  You’ll write, storyboard, film and add voiceovers.  Cost is $210 per week for ages 7-12. The camp takes place from 1-4 p.m. August 13-17.  (Course #17492)

Classes

Broken Tile Murals with Ms. Brame
Create broken tile artwork like the decorative walls and columns along the Mission Viejo Oso Creek trail. Bring your own 16 x 20 frame. Cost is $100 plus a $20 material fee payable to the instructor for ages 18 and older. The class is from 7-9 p.m. July 23 to August 27. (Course #17614)

Upcycled Book Birdhouse 2-Day Workshop
Make a lovely, decorative birdhouse using vintage books and other upcycled materials.  On the first day, you’ll make the birdhouse, and then embellish and decorate it the next day.  Cost is $60 plus a $20 material fee payable to the instructor for the two-day workshop for ages 10 and older. The workshop is from 10 a.m. to noon August 9-10.  (Course #17556)
 
FREE Eco-Chic Jewelry Workshop
Learn to design one-of-a-kind jewelry using repurposed materials.  Make beautiful “pulp stones” that look like real gems. This free class takes place on August 3 from 6-8 p.m. for students 10 and older. (Course #17554)
 
Beginning Jewelry Making
This introduction to jewelry making covers basic techniques working with tools and beading materials.  Participants will enjoy creating do-it-yourself bracelets, earrings, pendants and necklaces.  Cost is $10 plus a $20 material fee payable to the instructor for ages 12 and older. The class is from 2-4 p.m. on August 17.  (Course #17561)
 
Intro to Lapidary: Stone Pendants 
Learn to use professional flat lapidary equipment to shape, sand and polish a rough semi-precious stone (lapis, agate, jasper, etc.) into a lovely wearable pendant. Cost is $40 plus a $15 material fee payable to the instructor for ages 16 and older. The class is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 11. (Course #17502)
 
Introduction to Mosaics
Have fun learning to make a mosaic pot or picture frame.  Shape ceramic tiles and glass with nippers; bond; and grout to finish. All supplies included. Cost is $60 for ages 14 and older. The class is from 1-4 p.m. on August 11. (Course #17575)
 
Build a Fairy Garden Workshop
Build a fairy garden to bring magic into your world. Planter, soil, planting materials and even your own small fairy home are supplied – just bring your imagination. Cost is $35 plus a $10 material fee payable to the instructor for ages 5 and older. The workshop is from 10 a.m. to noon on August 4. (Course #17612)
 
Build a Fairy Home Workshop
Bring magic to your world! Build your own personalized fairy home for your house or garden. All materials supplied including pixie dust. Cost is $35 plus a $10 material fee payable to the instructor for ages 5 and older. The workshop takes place on August 25 from 10 a.m. to noon. (Course #17609)
 
Painted & Fired Glass Workshop
Explore glass painting tools and centuries-old techniques; mixing and applying glass-based pigments to glass and firing them in the kiln. Complete an art piece in one day. Cost is $100 plus a $25 material fee payable to instructor for ages 16 and older. The workshop takes place on August 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Course #17656)
 
What Color are your Emotions?
This creative workshop guides participants through expressing emotions abstractly, using color and paint on canvas.  You’ll create three paintings to bring home.  No art experience is necessary. Cost is $40 plus a $10 material fee payable to instructor for ages 18 and older. The class is from 10 a.m. to noon on August 18. (Course #17532)

Joyful Oil Painting with Yoko Collin
Discover your creative side while learning oil painting basics through advanced techniques.  Some supplies and a canvas panel included. Cost is $100 plus a $10 material fee payable to the instructor for ages 15 and older. The class is from 10 a.m. to noon August 9-30. (Course #17545)

Open Studio Painting & Drawing
Open Studio is an opportunity for people with previous painting and drawing experience to independently pursue their art projects in the company of fellow artists.  Facilitated by art instructors or volunteers, the class is from 12:30-3:30 p.m.  August 9-30. Cost is $40 for ages 18 and older. (Course #17564)
 
Family Friendly Acrylic Painting
Using a step-by-step method, you will create a beautiful acrylic painting every class. Canvases, paints and tools provided. Cost is $100 plus a $25 material fee payable to instructor for ages 7 and older. The class takes place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. August 4-25. (Course #17543)
