Two virtual conversations will focus on suicide prevention and awareness

conversations

In honor of Suicide Prevention Month, the Mission Viejo Library is partnering with two local organizations to host virtual conversations on suicide prevention and awareness.

First up on Friday, September 11 at 6 pm, Nancy Cooper from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) will present “Talk Saves Lives.”  Participants will learn the common risks factors for suicide, how to spot the warning signs in others and how to keep themselves, loved ones and our community safe.  After the session, folks can ask questions.

Then on Thursday, September 17 at 6 pm, Ali Borowski, founder of Find Your Anchor, will discuss suicide prevention and awareness. She will also talk about her Anchor Boxes, what you might find in them, and how to find or drop them into our community.  Each anchor box includes cards, posters, phone numbers and more.  Participants can ask questions after the session.

Both programs will be hosted via Zoom.  Participants can remain anonymous, if desired, by selecting a screen name that doesn’t identify them. To ensure patron privacy, all videos and microphones will be turned off, and participants will have the option to then turn on their cameras to be seen.

For the Zoom invitation, email libraryprograms@cityofmissionviejo.org.
