See ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’ with your family Sunday, July 15

film

Mark your calendar for Sunday and head to the Norman P. Murray Community Center for a free film presentation of the timeless classic “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.”

Hosted by the Mission Viejo Community of Character Committee, the film, which starts at 2 p.m., coincides with this month’s character trait of “fairness.”

Harriet Beeeher Stowe's story of slavery and survival in the Old South comes alive in this moving tribute to the strength of the human spirit. First-rate performances by Samuel L Jackson, Phylicia Rashad, Bruce Dern and Avery Brooks highlight this stirring portrait of human bondage. "Uncle Tom's Cabin" is a richly detailed panorama of courage, dignity and redemption that enfolds in a film you'll never forget.

The movie is not rated and is appropriate for people of all ages. Families are encouraged to enjoy this unique experience.

After the film presentation, retired history teacher Bob Hayes will lead a discussion about how values and “fairness” are presented in the movie and how those attributes in “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” contributed to the start of the Civil War.
